Drone Fleet

The system maintains a catalogue of all aircraft available for operations. You can browse the fleet without logging in by visiting the Drones section in the main navigation.

Browsing the Fleet

Each aircraft is listed with its name, image, and key specifications. Only drones with Active status are shown in public views and in the project assignment dropdowns.

Reading a Drone Specification Card

Field What it means
MTOW Maximum Take-Off Weight in grams — the heaviest the drone can weigh including payload
Class marking CAA class (C0, C1, C2, C3, C4) — determines which Open sub-category rules apply
Control frequency Radio frequency used for the remote control link
Serial number The manufacturer serial number of this specific unit
IP rating Water protection level — see below
Max wind speed Manufacturer's maximum operating wind speed in m/s

IP Rating and Weather

The IP rating indicates how well the drone is protected against water ingress. For drone operations, only the water digit matters (the dust digit is not relevant to flight conditions):

Rating Protection Typical use
IPX0 No protection Fly only in completely dry conditions
IPX1 Dripping water Very light mist only
IPX3 Spraying water Light rain acceptable
IPX4 Splashing water Moderate rain acceptable
IPX5 Water jets Heavy rain acceptable
IPX6 Powerful jets Severe rain acceptable
IPX7 Immersion up to 1 m Can operate in heavy downpours

The project weather forecast uses the drone's IP rating and maximum wind speed to give you a Good / Caution / Not Recommended weather rating for your planned flight date and location.

Drone Status

Status Meaning
Active Available for operations — appears in project dropdowns
Maintenance Temporarily unavailable — not shown in project dropdowns
Archived Retired from service — not available for new operations

If a drone you expected to see is missing from the assignment dropdown, check with a Responsible Officer — the drone may have been placed in maintenance or archived.
